Maxine Hoover is a New York City-based fine artist and curator whose work explores the fluid relationship between the physical and spiritual realms. A lifelong painter, she began receiving commissions at age 16 and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and Politecnico Di Milano. Her practice involves experimental self-portraiture with unconventional materials, drawing inspiration from meditation, dreams, and most recently, her time at sea.
After spending time off land while completing month-long ocean voyages isolated on a historical sailboat, she deepened her connection to themes of surrender, stillness, and vastness—elements that now permeate her large scale paintings on sails.
Beyond her studio practice, Maxine has run the programming and curation of semi-weekly exhibitions at Landmark Art Space in Manhattan, that focus on spotlighting emerging contemporary artists. Her work elevating emerging female artists in New York has been recognized by major press, earning her place as an Honoree from Schneps Media’s 2024 Power Women 30 list.
