Astral Dancers was born from a moment of complete surrender in the open ocean. After spending extended periods at sea aboard a historic sailboat, Maxine Hoover’s artistic practice transformed—shaped by solitude, stillness, and the vastness of nature. One particularly calm day, adrift without wind, she floated in silence in the blue expanse and realized she had become one of her own paintings: a figure suspended, fluid, and free. This painting didn’t just reflect an experience—it seemed to call it into being. Painted with acrylic on a reclaimed sail, Astral Dancers captures the feeling of letting go, embracing the unknown, and moving in rhythm with the universe.
